Drug Abuse

 

A Drug is a substance that alters the way in which the human body works. Drugs can affect you mind, your body or both. In every society there are drugs that people use for medical purposes and drugs that people use for pleasure.

 

What to do next:

 

There are two options available for this homework. Only attempt one of them.

Homework Option 1: Should Cannabis be legalised?

 

This homework is to produce a media report, such as a newspaper article or a news ‘piece to camera’ giving your opinion on whether cannabis should be legalised.

 

You should produce one of the following

 

1.     A Newspaper page titled ‘Should Cannabis be Legalised?’ This should be A4 size and include pictures as well as text.

2.     A spoken News report. This could be filmed using a digital camera or camcorder or it could be voice recorded into a Dictaphone.

 

·        You can use the Scientist opinions and facts from the Sheet1 and  Sheet2

·        You should include Quotes from Scientists that are both for and against the legalisation of Cannabis

·        You should include some – Facts about Cannabis in your discussion

·        You should give your opinion about legalising Cannabis

 

Homework Option 2: Drugs in Sport

 

This homework is to research the use of drugs to improve sporting performance

 

You should produce one of the following

1.     A PowerPoint presentation about Drugs in sport.

2.     A Leaflet about Drugs in sport.

 

Your product should include the following information:

·        Definition of ‘drug’

·        definition of ‘doping’

·        examples of illegal drugs use in sport

·        why substances are banned

·        risks of taking drugs

·        testing for drugs and complications in testing
