Adaptation for Survival

All living things (plants as well as animals) have adaptations that help them to survive in the environment where they live. In order to survive, animals must compete with each other for the resources they need (food, shelter, water and a mate). Plants also compete with each other for the resources they need (light, water and nutrients) to survive.

Adaptations help animals and plants to compete and be successful.

This homework is related to the learning you have been doing on ‘Adaptation for Survival’. There are two options available for this homework.

What to do next:

Only attempt one of the Options.

Homework Option 1: Fact File

There are many different organisms, each with their own adaptations that help them survive. Choose three organisms, including at least one plant, and complete the fact file which explains the adaptation/s that the animal has and how that adaptation helps the organism to survive. E.g. Cacti have spines instead of leaves to reduce water loss.

In your fact file include:

Homework Option 2: Poster

Today, the effect of global warming on the temperature on Earth is a concern, but what about our pets? They do not know of the threat of global warming. But, to survive, they will need to adapt. You may have a pet rabbit, if not you will need to imagine that you do. You need to think about how your pet rabbit will need to adapt to be able to survive in a warmer climate.

Produce a poster showing a picture of a rabbit. This can be hand drawn or printed from a computer. On the poster add:
