Oil is one of the most important chemical resources The Earth has yielded to us. If you can think of a product it probably has a connection with being made from or related to oil.

 

This section of work is all about what oil is and what we can do with it.

 

What to do next:

 

You have 3 tasks to complete. You should complete at least 2 of them.

 

a)     Explain the difference between an alkane and an alkene.

 Either make a model or draw a poster.

Google the words to help you. Or use your revision guide.

Label your poster and diagram and use the words saturated and unsaturated, double bond and single bond.

 

 

b)    Plastic disposal options – pros and cons sorting activity.

 

 

c)     Applications of new polymers. Research into the types of new polymers available to be used in manufacturing.

Either design a new product explaining why you have chosen the materials you have used,

Or take an existing product and explain the choice of materials it has been made from.

 

You can use the display format of your choice. It could be a poster, a PowerPoint slide or a written paragraph.
