Task Sheet C1b-3

Earth and Atmosphere

The Earth is an amazing place. It is the only place in the Universe where ‘life’ exists as we know it (so far!), but was it always like this? The following homework will give you the opportunity to find out the history of The Earth and see how it has changed over millions of years.

What to do next:

Complete at least 2 of the following tasks.

1.)     Journey to the centre of The Earth    .Image:A_Journey_to_the_Centre_of_the_Earth

Jules Verne wrote this famous book over 100 years ago using new scientific ideas to create this world famous science fiction adventure.

Write a poem or a song describing your journey to the centre of the Earth.

Use the words crust, mantle, outer-core, inner-core, rock, molten, hot, convection currents, spinning, nickel and iron.

You may even wish to read the book to see how Jules did it!

2.)     The air we breathe. The gases in the atmosphere have changed over millions of years. Use the links below to make a timeline (or labelled graph)showing how and why the composition of the atmosphere has changed over the last 4 billion years.

3.)          Drifting away!  No not a song but an idea about how the surface of The Earth has changed over millions of years. Prepare a debate to discuss the different ideas about how the surface of the earth has changed over time. Use the text books and websites listed below to help you.
