Full details for Task Sheet P1a-3

“How rich will I get if I Switch them off?”

Information:

  • Energy is measured in joule, J.
  • Power in watts (W) = Energy transferred (J) /time taken (s)
  • 1 watt = 1 joule per second.
  • 1 kilowatt (1kW) =1000 watt (1000W)
  • The Unit for buying electricity is measured in kilowatt hours so you need to know how long the appliance is on in hours

Remember there are 60 seconds in 1 minute and 60 minutes in 1 hour.

  • The cost of running your appliance is found by multiplying the total number of Units by the cost per unit
